Construction, Debris Recycling Saves District Funds

An arrangement with a local recycler has resulted in construction debris savings of more than $12,700 in just two months. Since February, mixed construction and demolition debris -- mixed concrete, dirt, rock, asphalt, wood -- has been hauled to an EDCO Waste and Recycling Company facility, rather than to the City of San Diego's landfill. EDCO's rates are about half the cost of city rates, so the $12,700 saved in two months is expected to pile up -- the district dumps nearly 240 tons of construction and demolition debris every month.
