From the May, 2009, North Park News:
Parents and teachers have began applying the artistic creations of second grade students at McKinley Elementary to the first of a series of murals that will cover the backs of three and a half bungalows to create a peaceful gathering
space.
Led by second grade teacher Richard Kenyon, the students’effort garnered the assistance and talents of artists around San Diego. Now the application of their creations to the mural is involving faculty, parents and students from other grades. The theme is from the Beatles’classic “Octopus’s Garden” song.
Kenyon, who has taught at the school for 13 years and lives nearby, says the goal is to finish the murals by the end of the school year. The sec-
ond graders are thrilled. “It is going to be their legacy,” he says.
