Alex Wells was knocked out of the National Spelling Bee Thursday in the second semifinal round. Alex, an eighth grader from Standley Middle School in University City, was felled by the word "dansant," which means an informal or small dance.
He gave its spelling as "daissant."
Wells had earlier advanced spelling the word "kinetosis" correctly during the first round of the semifinals Thursday.
