Earlier this year, University City High School snagged one of the first-place spots in the annual Unity in Action contest organized by the San Diego Regional Hate Crimes Coalition. The contest is open to schools with programs that promote unity, diversity and tolerance. University City's Power of One program works within the human psychology and sociology course, which was started two years ago, said Lauriann Stanley, who teaches the class.
