Food Services Heads to Congress

District Food Services Director Gary Petill was invited to speak to the Congressional Education and Labor Committee in Washington, D.C., this week. His visit was part of an effort introducing legislation sponsored by U.S. Rep. Jared Polis, (D-Colorado) and the Physicians Committee of Responsible Medicine aimed at improving the health and nutrition of school meals. The legislation also urges more vegetarian options for children across the nation, in the interest of promoting health and combating rising childhood obesity. On his visit, Petill met with several members of the California congressional delegation along with both Senators Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein to gain their support for better school lunches.
