Scripps Ranch Senior Contends for US Physics Team

Scripps Ranch High School senior Xiang-Yu "Leo" Zhou is a contender for one of 24 spots on the U.S. Physics Team, having qualified for the semifinal.

Nationwide, 312 students qualified, based on a screening exam taken by thousands of physics students. San Diego¹s students constitute 13.3 percent of California's qualifiers and 3.2 percent of the national total. These students will now take a semifinal examination used to determine the U. S. Physics Team. Five students will go on International Physics Olympiad in Croatia in July.

The International Physics Olympiad is held annually and is supported by the San Diego Math Circle. The program is supported by UCSD, the Art of Problem Solving, Inc., as well as corporate sponsors such as Gen-Probe Incorporated and Quintiles International.
