Eighth-grade GATE and Seminar students at Montgomery Middle School are now being mentored to prepare them for future roles as leaders within their personal, academic and professional worlds.
The Learn to Lead after-school program focuses on leadership versus popularity, why diversity matters, understanding change and other important topics centered on developing leadership behaviors. The program was created by Steve Smith, a doctoral student in leadership studies at the University of San Diego, in conjunction with Principal Jonathan Ton and teacher Leah LaVelle. Volunteers working in the program include current or former graduate students at USD.
Activities include developing a virtual relationship with a sister school in Malaysia and a leadership spotlight survey for local community and corporate leaders. For more information, please contact Principal Jonathan Ton at (858) 496-8330.
