School Police Dispatcher Honored

Erika Rodgers, a San Diego Unified police dispatcher, is one of three police dispatchers to be recognized tomorrow night at the San Diego Association of Public Safety Dispatchers’ 7th Annual Dispatcher Appreciation Awards Banquet. The banquet, which will be held at the Handlery Hotel and Resort, culminates National Public Safety Telecommunications Week, April 11-17. Erika will be honored for her split-second decision to return to work to assist and relieve an ailing fellow dispatcher who had just taken over her shift. Erika’s gut reaction told her this dispatcher needed immediate medical attention so she summoned paramedics. Until help arrived, she continued to monitoring incoming calls and alarms, and care for her ailing colleague. The dispatcher was rushed to the hospital where she received urgent treatment for a potentially life-threatening condition.
