'Best Moms' Have Kids in San Diego Unified
Students from Clairemont High and de Portola Middle School took top prizes in the "San Diego's 50 Best Moms" contest from Time Warner Cable. An additional 12 students from San Diego Unified were successful in placing their mom on the "Best" list. Hunter Garnier, grade 8, from de Portola, and Francesca Brown, an 11th grader at Clairemont High (shown here with Kim Rohr from Sony and Marc Farrar from Time Warner Cable), each received a new Sony VAIO laptop computer; their teachers received a $250 gift card for supplies for their classrooms. The contest, now in its ninth year, asked students in grades 4 through 12 a very simple question: “Why do you think your mom is one of San Diego’s 50 Best?” More than 3,550 entries were received from San Diego County students, but only 50 rose to the top.
