Second graders from John Muir School learned a lesson last week about how healthy food gets from the field to their tables. The 7 and 8 year olds got a visit from the Green Machine, a mobile farm education program sponsored by the County Office of Education that teaches kids about cultivating healthy choices. They learned about modern farming techniques, and how food production works from farm to table. They explored worm-filled soil, learned about composting, found out what to do about bugs and alternative pest control, including releasing ladybugs into the garden. The educational program is supported by Henry’s Farmer Market and Kaiser Permanente. For more information, please contact Caryn Maroni, magnet resource teacher, at (858) 268-1954.
